Presenting: Cut+Run’s New San Francisco Space

Cut + Run is pleased to announce the opening of our new post-production space in San Francisco. Helmed by Executive Producer Deanne Mehling and Senior Editor Pete Koob, the office is located in the heart of the city, two blocks off of Union Square and surrounded by a vibrant collection of new restaurants, shops, and bars. Leveraging the partnership between Cut + Run and VFX sister company, Jogger, the office has already enjoyed a wide range of collaborations such as Xbox with 215 McCann, Draft Kings with BSSP and Playstation with Venables Bell and Partners. Housing three edit bays and a fully equipped flame suite, the new space aims to extend to Cut+Run’s San Francisco clients the same high level of talent and premiere client service found in the company’s offices around the world.

Eli Beck-Gifford / First Place – Editing / AICE 2016 Camp Kuleshov

Cut+Run is honored to announce LA assistant Eli Beck-Gifford took First Place in Editing in the AICE’s 2016 Camp Kuleshov. The Los Angeles Chapter’s Camp Kuleshov was held at The Mandrake Bar, where Eli Beck-Gifford won for his Japanese Samurai version of “The Karate Kid.”

“Eli continues a proud tradition of Camp Kuleshov wins by Cut+Run assistants, and we are thrilled that he earned first place,” says Cut+Run Editor/Founder Steve Gandolfi. “The event is a time for assistants to really shine and for the industry to witness the talent of our next industry stars. We’ve cultivated and hired winners, so it’s definitely an important honor, and a lot of fun.”“I had a great time diving into the history of Japanese cinema and culture for the twist on the Karate Kid, and am blown away by the recognition,” comments Eli, who, with his nod to Kurosawa, showed exceptional editorial skills and become part of a select group of assistants honored each year by the AICE.

“I had a great time diving into the history of Japanese cinema and culture for the twist on the Karate Kid, and am blown away by the recognition,” comments Eli, who, with his nod to Kurosawa, showed exceptional editorial skills and become part of a select group of assistants honored each year by the AICE.

All assistants worked from the same set of source films and creative briefs, creating new trailers that presented existing films as of another genre or from a specific director, or changed them up entirely to create new films that never existed.

First Place finishers in Editing, Sound Design and Graphic Design will compete against each other for the honor of being awarded “The Lev,” the International Camp Kuleshov Grand Prize in each category. In addition to receiving a special award named for the famous Russian film theorist who inspired Camp Kuleshov, the winners will receive cash prizes and their work will be recognized at the 2017 AICE Awards show in New York this May.
